Some members head to Little Sturgis - 2006 |

Four of our brave High Country Cruiser two wheel cowboys attented the 2006
Little Sturgis motorcycle rally this last weekend in Sturgis Kentucky. Ken,
Ron, Will and I took the journey. As with all our major trips, it included a stop at my sister's house on the Kentucky Lake in the Greater Big Sandy Tennessee Metroplex. We met my sister, brother-in-law, and my Dad in town for dinner then proceeded to the lake for margaritas on the back deck while watching the sunset over the water. A good shower and nights sleep (the last one we would enjoy for a while) finished day one. Day two saw us backtracking for several miles to retrieve a credit card that one of our group (no names mentioned) had left at the last gas stop on day one. Instead of arriving around noon for a premier campsite, we rolled in at around three and the pickings were getting kinda slim. We managed to find a site that was pretty shady and pitched tents. The site was about 3/4 mile from the showers so a decision was made to just go grundgy. The activity picked up around 6:00 PM and when we went looking for a cold beer to wash down the road dust, we found that it was a dry county, so we suffered through the evening. The activity, which included the notorious bike parade went on until well after 4:00 AM. Since we had decided to call it quits at around midnight and go to sleep, that did not happen until about 4:30. At 5:30 AM the new shift of rowdy noise makers came on duty, so "quiet time was about 1 hour. The web site did caution that people came to party, so be aware. Day 3 included a run into the next town for liquid refreshments, breakfast and new camera batteries (we wore out a set of batteries the night before). Back to the rally for a vendor tour then refer to 6:00 PM yesterday for a repeat performance. Day 4 we broke camp and headed back to the Big Sandy metroplex, all except Will ,who headed on out for the rest of his six week trip out to Iowa and points west for family visits. In Big Sandy we had what will be remembered as the most gratifying and totally pleasurable shower that we will probably have for the entire year. After returning to the land of the living, we enjoyed a guided boat tour of the Kentucky Lake (a small part of it anyway) with cold beer and a lot of local information. After the boat ride it was margaritas on the deck again and a humungeous catfish fry with all the trimmings. A wonderful soft bed in the air conditioning provided a great night's sleep. Day 5 we went into town for a hearty breakfast at the world famous Lillie D's restaurant and then headed back home. All else that can be said about the rally is "Thank You Ma'am. Will, you will be pleased to know that your last two strings of beads were wisely used, and don't forget to always get your credit card back after the gas purchases. I have included a few pictures of the adventure for your viewing pleasure, however it you are offended by pictures of pretty, petit, young, topless girls wearing Mardi Gras beads, perhaps you should not open the last picture.
